Final Project Reflection

http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/23685265/
During our final project, I chose to make a game that was similar to a maze. However in my game the point was to not touch the walls. If you did, you had to start over. I started by just making the backgrounds and then I worked the sprites into it. I took each task one step at a time and solved each problem one at a time. Every time I would change something in my script I would test it to see if it works. In the end, I really enjoyed this final project.

Final Scratch Project Game

The game that I am making will be similar to a maze. The finish line will be a monkey and the goal is to bring the bananas to the monkey without the bananas touching the forest green walls. Every time the bananas touch the green, you will lose a point and have to go back to the start.

Scores

http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/23594601/#editor

I remixed this game by making a score. The variable is a way to add a score to the game you're playing. I made it so every time the big fish ate a little fish, the score would increase by 1 point.

Debug it challenges week 2

  1. Debug it 1
  2. Debug it 2
  3. Debug it 3
  4. Debug it 4
  5. Debug it 5
A debugging strategy that I used was trying different blocks out and testing them right after. I also thought about previous activities we have had and how situations that I've already dealt with were similar to these situations. This made it easier for me to find out what was wrong. I would recommend to someone to trying to debug to stop and just read all the blocks first and think which ones could logically be possibilities to solve the debug activity.

Try it activities

While doing these try it activities, I found some of them to be more difficult then others. I decided to do activities 1,4,and 9. These were challenging but I was able to do it with some help. A strategy I used in helping me with making this work was trying one thing at a time and then testing it afterwards. This was one of the hardest activites so far since we learned how everything works just by trying every option until one of them worked.

Scenes

Both the stage and the sprites can change their appearances. The sprites can change their costumes while the stage can switch backdrops. In the theater they use backdrops to change where the scenes take place and that's what we were doing with the sprites.Other students also used the back drops to switch where the scenes took place. It was hard at first getting used to knowing how to switch backdrops but now I feel comfortable doing it.

Conversations

By using the broadcast block, this made the conversations flow much easier then before. It took more time setting it up though and was very confusing on how to make it work. You would use this block when you are trying to have different characters have a conversation with each other. This block was very helpful in this activity for me even though it was hard to figure out how to work it.

Make a Block

In the "Make a Block" activity, I felt confident that I knew what I was doing. The videos we watched really helped. Make a block was an easier way to included many actions in the scratch clip with having all the blocks separate from each other. You should use make a block if you have a series of actions that are all connected and can be changed into only one block. Overall the "make a block" was very helpful to the sprite.

Debug it

One debugging strategy that I used was trying out different options. I tested different blocks that I thought may be an option until one worked. To help someone else learn to debug a project I would ell them to think about what they are trying to make the outcome be. Usually there is a block saying something with key words in it that may tell you that it could be helpful.

10 Block Challenge

This 10 Block Challenge really helped me to understand how to use scratch. There are so many different blocks and it was a little over whelming at first but this challenge really helped ease my way into scratch. Using only these 10 blocks restrains what I can do because there's no freedom to do whatever I might have been thinking of. It's hard to use any creativity in a challenge with so many restrictions.

Scratch Reflection

I found it surprising how easy scratch was to use. I was expecting it to be much harder. Being led step by step made it easy and helpful. I like having more structure on projects we have at the beginning of a unit. I like more freedom on small assignments near the end of units that we already learned a lot about how to use and when we all know what we are doing. I feel most creative when I have more freedom to do whatever I'm thinking about instead of having restrictions on what I can and can't do

Spring and Summer

Whenever I think of the spring time I think of many different things.
Between the flowers blooming again after a long cold winter, to the bright
warm sun that shines above us all day. The spring and summer are the seasons that we all can go outside and really appreciate nature.

Fall and Winter

The weather and temperatures change a lot in the fall and winter from the spring and summer. Now it's cold outside and there is a good chance of it snowing. I personally like the fall and winter better then the spring and summer. I enjoy seeing and playing in the snow instead of sitting in the sun.

Document About Going To The Beach

The Beach in the Summer

Over the summer the air is very hot and humid. What better way to cool down then by going to the beach. The beach is a calm and relaxing place where people of all ages can all go and cool off. Whether you are swimming or tanning in the sun, the beach is the perfect place to be in the summer time.

Things To Do at the Beach

When I go to the becah, I personally enjoy swimming in the ocean. My little cousin's favorite part in playing in the sand and building sand castles. Teenagers love to just sit in the sun and get tan, which I also enjoy. Also, the beach is a great place to go for long walks because the water makes it more enjoyable. There are things for people of all ages to do at a beach.

Best Kind of Beaches

The best kind of beaches are the ones that are fairly quiet so you can here the waves crashing down. Also you can hear the seagulls as the fly over the beach. When the water is clear and just the right temperature

Document about Disney World

Disney World Parks

Disney World is made up of 4 theme parks and 2 water parks. The water parks are most common around the summer time because they are a great way to cool off and still experience the fun of Disney. My personal favorite are the theme parks though. Magic Kingdom is my favorite theme park because there are so many rides to go on. However, the other parks are still amazing!

Disney Hotels

After spending a magical day at the parks, you will get to continue to experience the magic while you stay at the Disney hotels. Every Disney hotel offers the guests to be in "Disney Mode" from the minute they wake up to the minute they go to sleep. I love having the experience of staying over night at the Disney hotels.

The Rides!

There are so many different types of rides at Disney to fit with the all the different preferences in rides that certain people have. For young kids there are slow rides and the carousel. For the teenagers or adults there are roller coasters/ thrill rides. There are also many areas for older people that need to rest can sit while still having fun.

Remixes

Working with the webmaker was really interesting. I got to make my own movie poster and I also got to create a post card online both by using codes. I could change the pictures to anything I chose and I could change all the writing  on the posters/cards. My movie poster I made was about I fake movie called Believe and my postacrd was also fake from France. It was hard to use webmaker at first but by the end I was fairly used to it.

Web pages

Web pages that are about other countries/states in the world are the most interesting to me. I like reading about people's trips and what they saw because it's interesting to hear how different other parts of the world are. I'm thinking of creating a web page that discusses all the differences we see in our surroundings based on where we travel to. I would want to compare and contrast different areas of the world because "it's a small world after all".

Reflecting on Excel

Learning how to properly use excel was very helpful to me. I learned so many shortcuts to things that I never knew. Now when I am working on excel, I won't waste as much time as I would have had to without the knowledge of how to use it.

Is Eliza Human?

Trying to program Eliza was very hard. The directions were not very specific so I ended up just playing around on it until something happened. It also only would work on certain softwares so I had to keep switching. The punctuation that we can use is very specific. You can only say certain things which is why Eliza doesn't use certain words that we use. For example, I tried saying "I'm" but it kept changing it to "I am" which is less natural for people to say. I didn't like using this Eliza program because it was too difficult to use.

Hour of Code

The first game on the hour of codes that I played was angry birds. This game was fairly easy but it got harder as you went on. Many of the levels were similar so you were just repeating the same steps a lot of the time. I was tempted to just skip some levels because it was taking so long and I just wanted to change games. Overall this game was alright but I probably wouldn't play it again.
After angry birds, I played light bot. The purpose of this game was to give directions to a robot on where to move so all the blocks can be lit. This game was may favorite out of all three of them. I didn't take to long and it still kept the players interest. I would be interested in further studying this because it was interesting. I also think I was able to do well on this game because it wasn't too complex to understand.
My last game I played was the Tynker games. This one I had the most problems with because it wouldn't open on certain softwares. It also took a very long time to load so I wasn't able to finish all the levels. From the levels I did play, it was very similar to the other games but was a little bit easier. This was made for younger kids to play so the directions were much easier to understand then the other games. I didn't really like this game because it wasn't fun and it took to long. The wait of this game was not worth playing.

Mac or Pc

When comparing the Mac computer to a Pc computer, I realized that getting a Pc was a better deal then geting a Mac. The Pc computers usually cost less the the Mac's do. Although the memory for both laptops are 4GB, the hard drive is better on the Pc. Also the operating system for Pc is windows while the Mac is Apple Mac OS X 10.6. I prefer windows over this operating system because I find it to be more reliable. Another thing is the screen sizes for the Pc are bigger then the Mac. When choosing between getting a Pc or a Mac, I would choose to get a Pc.

Reflection on Power Searching

After completing classes 1-6 on power searching with google, I feel like I am now capable of finding quotations and true information for essays. Not everything we read is true, and because of these classes, I know how to check if what I read on one website is an actual fact or not. By using Google Books, I can find out who said certain quotes that I find. Before, I would find great quotes but not know who the first person to say it was. Now I can site quotations in my essays much better. I also learned how to check if the information I read on one website is a fact or more of an opinion. By doing one more search I can check the information. This search can't be too specific because then it still won't be effective. The query should have the name of the topic that you are searching for but no specific numbers. These classes overall will improve the quality of all my work and hopefully enhence the actual outcome of the essay itself.

Power Searching with Google

In class one, we learned about how to effectively search for a topic in Google. The word order, word choice, and symbols used all matter when making a good query, however spelling and capitalization don’t make a difference in the query. We also learned a tool to help us search a page for certain words faster. By pressing the Control and F keys at the same time, a little box appears where you can type in a certain word that you are searching for. This makes research so much easier and faster. Both of these pieces of information will help me in research projects at school. In the next class, we learned about all the different types of media available on Google. Depending on what you’re searching for depends on which piece of media to use. The ones that I use most of the time are the images, videos, and web. However there are so many more options like news, maps, shopping and books. We also learned how to read the SERP. There are three parts to the SERP which are the title, web address, and the snippet. There are also two arrows which give you a preview of the site to make sure that it’s what you are looking for. I use this tool to help speed up my searching by quickly previewing each site so I know if it’s what I need or not. In class 3 we learned about many different operators. There are five of them which include filetype, site, minus (-), quotes, OR, and intext. Most of these are like filters so when you search for a topic it eliminates sites that you don’t want. Quotes and OR aren’t filters. Quotes allow you to search for the exact words that you type into the query. OR lets you search two topics at once by placing the word OR in-between the two queries. I can use these when I am trying to search for specific topics in the computer. For quotes, I can use this to search the author of famous quotes or the lyrics to a song. All the information I learned from classes 1, 2, and 3 have improved my ability to search in Google.

Disney World

Imagine leaving today and entering the world of tomorrow, yesterday, and fantasy. Disney World is the most magical place in the world. It is also the only place that something like this is possible. When you go to Disney World, you suddenly feel like a little kid again. You believe that anything is possible and you even believe in magic. Happiness flows through you as you watch the fireworks burst above Cinderella's castle. Knowing that you are in the happiest place on earth sends a wave relaxation throughout your whole body. You forget about the real world and all the stress you might have had back at home. It's important to enjoy every moment at Disney because before you know it, it will be over. However the memories you have made will be with you forever.
